September 10 Newsletter

Dear Friends and Family,

The hottest summer in 100 yrs.

At least it’s not just me – it is hot – the hottest it’s been in 100 years in Tokyo.  Even the cockroaches aren’t coming out so much (I’ve only seen 3 in my apt. this year).  2 showers a day is the norm and I finally joined a gym so I could go swimming instead of only running.  With AC, my apt. gets down to 28 degrees C.  Some of the Japanese are even wearing shorts!!!

Pinching Beetles and Flying Hamsters

One of the young boys in the church keeps beetles as pets in the summer as is very popular here.  They have pinchers and it hurts if they pinch you, but mostly I’m more worried for the bug as the boy is so rough with them – I’m always worried it’ll lose its legs!  It reminds me of when my brother and his friend used to play catch with his hamster.  “He likes it!” my brother would say.  That hamster lived to be 4 yrs old!!

A New Nephew

A most of you already know, I have a new nephew – Emmmett Raymond Yuill, born Aug. 11, weighing 9lbs 8 oz to my brother and his wife.  It’s their 3rd boy.   He should be taller than me by the time he’s 12!

Kids Camp

I ran a 2 day kids camp at my church in connection with the school where I taught music this past year.  We had 7 children from 3 yrs. to 14 yrs.  We went to a petting zoo, a pool, played games and did crafts and had Bible lessons and ate smores.  I only used a translator for the Bible lessons.  Of course, at the end when we asked the kids what their favourite part was, every one of them said “the pool”!

Prayer Requests

  1. For the mission teams from Germany, Australia and USA that are coming in Sept. and Oct.
  2. Opportunities to share the gospel.
  3. The young adults retreat I’m running in Sept.

Luv,

Amanda

p.s. Pictures are of my new nephew and the game “submarine” at kids camp. (More pics available on my website:  www.amandayuill.com).
